Calculation of materials for the construction of a wooden terrace

Softwoods such as spruce, pine, Siberian larch, etc. are best suited for working with FAST Deck Tool. The minimum recommended board thickness is 26 mm. If the board thickness is 34 mm or more, we recommend working with screws with a length of 75 mm. The width of the board must be between 95 and 150 mm. The wider the board, the greater the spacing between the boards is necessary. The wood is constantly working and gains volume with moisture. The optimum spacing for commonly used wood is approx. 6 mm. We recommend buying a spacer to ensure even joints between the boards (between 4 and 7 mm).

It is always advisable to use the same type of wood for the backing beams as for the decking boards.

The thicker the board, the greater the spacing between the joists can be.

The range of 500 mm applies, for example, to a wooden terrace made of Siberian larch with a plank thickness of approx. 27 mm.

For installation with the FAST Deck Tool, only FAST screws must be used - A4 or C4 screws.

The FAST A4 screw is made of stainless steel and has corrosion resistance class C5. It is also recommended for swimming pools.

The FAST C4 screw has a special ZF MAX surface treatment and is suitable for normal garden environments. It is not suitable for swimming pools.

Each pack of screws includes a special bit to achieve the optimum screw-in depth.

The spacer pad ensures the spacing between the terrace boards and the underlying joists. There is no direct contact between the timbers, water can drain away, air flows between the boards and the timber can dry faster, thus extending the life of the terrace.
